Bethany Skena is a contemporary landscape painter working with small and large scale paintings and is an Orlando, Florida native. She is working primarily in acrylic on canvas, paper and wood and is pursuing a Masters of Fine Arts with a concentration in painting at the University of Central Florida, where she hopes to graduate in the spring of 2029.
Skena has exhibited her work in group shows including the Small Things Considered at Arts on Douglas in New Smyrna Beach, FL and The Winn Win Group Exhibition at Mills Gallery in Orlando FL . Her work reflects an interest in the emotional dualities of suburban spaces and engages with the scenes and emotions of a home and the ideas of belonging and isolation.

I am a contemporary landscape painter and my work revolves around suburban neighborhoods and the nature around them. Home is a central theme within my work, where suburban settings can stir memories and emotions of comfort, stability, anxiety and loss, and the uncomfortable transition between them. In exploring these introspective moments I experience, a sense of absence often arises where feelings of contentment and isolation start to unfold within these environments. My paintings show glimpses of light peeking through foliage above a house or the few minutes of twilight engulfing a street are how I express the emotions within these mundane spaces and how unique associations tied to the environments we currently inhabit, remember, or encounter are revealed.
